Are you or someone you care about struggling with overwhelming emotions, impulsive reactions, or challenges in relationships? At Soar Therapy and Integrated Wellness, our DBT Skills Groups are offered twice a year in Springfield, VA, providing a unique opportunity for women and teens in Northern Virginia and the DC Metro area to achieve meaningful and lasting change.

What Makes Our DBT Skills Group Different

Clients often share that their experience in our DBT Skills Group was the turning point in their journey. This group isn’t just about learning coping skills; it’s about understanding the root causes of unhelpful behaviors and discovering what you truly need. Many participants often find, for the first time, that they can put words to their needs instead of acting out in ways that worsen their suffering. Through guided support, they learn to communicate more clearly, set boundaries in unhealthy relationships, and increase their tolerance for difficult emotions that might have once pushed them over the edge.

We know that life’s hardest moments don’t wait for us to feel ready. That’s why our group emphasizes practical crisis skills for those times when emotions are already high. You’ll learn how to manage even the most challenging situations with calm, grounded self-energy, rather than reacting from a place of overwhelm. We also incorporate somatic exercises, gentle, body-based practices that help regulate the nervous system. These tools enable you to manage internal urges and soften intense emotions, allowing you to respond to life with greater awareness and self-compassion.

This class is valuable and worth enrolling in if you’re ready to break free from patterns that haven’t served you and want to move toward a life with less pain and more possibility.

What Our DBT Skills Group Covers

Our DBT Skills Group is thoughtfully designed to address the core areas that impact emotional well-being. Over twelve weeks, with 90-minute sessions each week, you’ll explore four essential modules:

Mindfulness
You’ll learn to stay present and grounded, even during emotionally charged moments. Mindfulness practices help you observe thoughts and feelings without judgment, increasing self-awareness and reducing impulsive reactions.

Distress Tolerance
Life brings stress and pain. In this module, you’ll develop healthy ways to navigate emotional crises, cope effectively without worsening the situation, and accept reality even when it’s challenging.

Emotion Regulation
Many people feel that they become blended with their emotions, so they can’t control them. In group, you’ll learn to understand and name your feelings, reduce emotional vulnerability, and learn to manage your emotions in a more positive experience while still honoring your feelings.

Interpersonal Effectiveness
Healthy relationships rely on clear communication. This module helps you ask for what you need, set boundaries, break people-pleasing behaviors, and learn to navigate conflict, so you can build stronger, more satisfying connections.

Chronic Pain and the Nervous System

January 9, 2026
Living with chronic pain can be confusing—especially when tests come back normal and the discomfort seems to move, flare with stress, or settle into areas like the neck, jaw, hips, or lower back. In many cases, the issue isn’t only muscular or structural. It can be rooted in a nervous system that has learned to stay on high alert after prolonged stress. This post explores how chronic stress can translate into real physical pain, why symptoms may feel unpredictable, and how therapeutic massage and counseling at Soar Therapy and Integrated Wellness can work together to support regulation, reduce flare-ups, and help the body begin to recover.
